Backstory

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Who are you? When did you join Pink Dynasty?

I’m Mercy, a Pink Dynasty alumna who joined the programme back in 2013 while I was finishing my final year at the University of West London.

At the time, I was studying law and thought I’d become a barrister but admittedly, I didn’t have much direction. That all changed when my university career advisor introduced me to Pink Dynasty, opening the door to new opportunities and connections.

What were you doing or going through at the time?

I was in the midst of my law degree, unsure of my next steps. After joining Pink Dynasty, I found myself on a completely new path – landing a role in Risk at Standard Chartered thanks to the excellent relationship forged with my mentor. This was the start of a journey that has taken me far beyond what I had imagined.

What made you join Pink Dynasty? How did you find out about it?

My university career advisor was first to suggest Pink Dynasty. After receiving an email about the programme, I decided to apply. Soon after, I was invited to an open day at Standard Chartered, which was an exciting and eye-opening experience – especially seeing so many other ambitious young people there.

Career and Life now

What are you doing now, professionally and personally?

Since those early days my career has flourished. After several years at Standard Chartered, I was headhunted by a boutique consulting firm specialising in financial crime risk assessments.

That firm was later acquired by Accenture, where I have worked ever since. On a personal note, I recently got married and welcomed a baby boy, Asha, in May. I’m also a director in a family-run care business and have started investing in property – truly a “busy bee”!

Impact of Pink Dynasty

How did Pink Dynasty shape your journey?

I credit Pink Dynasty for opening my eyes to new possibilities. The programme, and especially the mentoring, helped me see that my law degree could lead to many different careers.

I would describe Pink Dynasty as “a family” that supported my growth, while also inspiring me to help others. Their mantra “lift as you climb” has stayed with me, and I now mentor university students and young professionals, passing on the support I once received.

Financial Empowerment

How have your views around money and business changed since completing the programme?

A key turning point for myself, was a Pink Dynasty session on financial empowerment, which changed how I thought about money.

Coming from a background where supporting the wider family was the norm, I learned the importance of structuring finances and planning for the future. Now, I’m diligent about saving, investing, and building generational wealth for my family. I also believe in having a “side hustle” and not relying solely on a nine-to-five job.

Personal Growth & Reflection

What would you say to your younger self starting the programme?

My advice to my younger self is simple but powerful: “It’s OK to make mistakes – they don’t define your ultimate destination.”

I used to be anxious about failing but now see mistakes as opportunities to learn and grow. Her journey from law to banking to consulting is proof that being open to change can lead to unexpected and rewarding paths.

What would you say to a young woman thinking of joining or someone considering supporting Pink Dynasty?

To a young woman: Pink Dynasty is definitely worth it. I believe that young women need guidance and the right influences to navigate a world full of confusion and challenges, and having a mentor is invaluable.

To a potential sponsor or supporter: I highly encourage others to get involved – whether as a participant or a supporter – because we have to change the world somehow.

I’m so passionate about helping the next generation of young women become stronger and more confident and will always remember to “lift as you climb.”

Mercy’s story is a testament to the power of mentorship, community, and being open to new opportunities. For anyone considering Pink Dynasty, her journey shows just how far the programme can take you – both professionally and personally.
