Backstory

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Who are you? When did you join Pink Dynasty?

My name is Nazirah. I joined Pink Dynasty in 2014 as part of the first cohort, shortly after moving from Mauritius to London for university.

What were you doing or going through at the time?

I had just finished my A-levels in Mauritius. I did them twice to secure a national scholarship. The second time, I ranked first and was awarded a fully funded scholarship to study anywhere in the world. I chose London, where I started a degree in Statistics, Economics, and Finance at UCL. When I first arrived, I felt very lonely. Coming from a small island, I had no network in London. I was looking for community, support, and guidance on navigating life in a big city.

What made you join Pink Dynasty? How did you find out about it?

I came across Pink Dynasty at the exact time I was looking for something meaningful to be part of. It was perfect timing; the programme started the same year I needed that support and community.

Career and Life now

What are you doing now, professionally and personally?

After graduating, I joined JP Morgan’s operations and finance programme, later moving into investment banking in the TMT (technology, media, telecom) team. After COVID, I got married and moved to Paris with my husband. I took a career break, which was a hard decision after reaching my “dream job,” but it gave me time to reflect.

I started a fashion brand in Paris, focused on encouraging people to wear less polyester and more natural materials. This came from realising the impact of health, lifestyle, and sustainability. I’ve also discovered I enjoy entrepreneurship, and I hope to start more companies in the future, ideally in tech. I’m considering moving back to London where the investor community is more open and my network is stronger.

Impact of Pink Dynasty

How did Pink Dynasty shape your journey?

Pink Dynasty gave me a community and access to accomplished women whose advice and example shaped my confidence and skills.

The programme provided structured training and educational sessions, which were very helpful at that stage of life. My first London internship came through Pink Dynasty, which opened doors to further opportunities in banking.

Sessions on professional presentation, like how to dress for interviews, gave me an advantage early on. The friendships and openness, being able to ask mentors and peers for guidance, even beyond formal assignments, have stayed with me personally and professionally.

Pink Dynasty:In terms of the impact Pink Dynasty has had in your life, whether it's small or big, whatever it is, tell us about how the programme has helped shape your journey so far in terms of your career, your personal life, but also financial decisions you've made.

Nazirah:The programme gave me a community. It gave me access when I didn't have it to where accomplished women that I could take advice from.

And we also had a lot of well-structured training and educational sessions which eventually helped me build my confidence and skills for life.

The people I have met and the friendships I have made have stayed with me in my personal life.

In terms of career, I think not only has it given me confidence, it had opened up doors. I remember there was also an internship which was embedded in the programme, and that was for me my first internship in London. And from then I went on to join many other banks and opportunities.

Financial Empowerment

How have your views around money and business changed since completing the programme?

Financial education from Pink Dynasty was life-changing. Ten years ago, I knew nothing about managing money as a new student. Learning about financial literacy, relationships, and money management gave me tools I still use today.

The programme also changed my definition of success. The motto “lift as you climb” stayed with me. Now, success for me includes seeing others succeed too. I moved from being a mentee to also being a mentor, and that transition, from needing help to giving back, is one of the most valuable parts of my journey.

Hear Nazirah explain why financial education is extremely important for young women

by Pink Dynasty and Nazirah Salauroo

Nazirah:Financial education is extremely important, especially for young women.

And I can say that after I made my career in finance, but I'm extremely glad that 10 years ago, when I didn't know anything and I was a brand new student, YOU put the emphasis on financial education on the program, which was so helpful because it is a sensitive topic to talk about money and family and relationship dynamics that can affect it.

And it's not a topic that people talk enough about openly, and they should.

I think now, maybe with social media, people are starting to talk about it a bit more, but at least back then, we didn't have it so much. So this was extremely important.

For me, it was life changing.

Personal Growth & Reflection

What would you say to your younger self starting the programme?

Don’t overthink, just start. Pink Dynasty equips young women with mentorship, life skills, and a supportive network. It shows you that your voice matters and that your circumstances don’t have to limit you.

Hear Nazirah’s mindset breakthrough since completing the PD programme

by Pink Dynasty and Nazirah Salauroo

Pink Dynasty:Have your views around money, business or self worth changed since completing the programme?

Nazirah: Yes, for sure. In terms of my confidence, it has improved a lot. And I remember that the motto of the programme was to "lift as you climbed" and you mentioned it a lot.

So now my personal definition of success has evolved to include the success of people around me. So I want to see others happy. I want to see others achieve in their dreams.

And I feel that being a mentee, I also had a chance to be a mentor on the programme. But eventually you transition into the mindset of needing help to wanting to help, which I think is a beautiful transition because it makes me a fuller, happier, better person and I can give back to the community, just like just when I was in a position to take from it.

What would you say to a young woman thinking of joining or someone considering supporting Pink Dynasty?

To a young woman: Don’t hesitate; joining was one of the best decisions I ever made. University prepares you academically, but Pink Dynasty gave me the interpersonal and life skills I needed. Without it, my career and mindset might have been very different.

To a company or sponsor: Pink Dynasty focuses on ambitious young women who might not otherwise have access to these opportunities. Supporting them helps individuals succeed, but it also strengthens society as a whole.

Final words

Nazirah defines success less by what impresses others and more by being happy and motivated day to day. Background influences how you see success, but looking after your own wellbeing helps everyone around you.

Nazirah recognises that Pink Dynasty was more than a programme, it was a turning point. It gave her a sense of belonging, practical tools, and the confidence to dream bigger. For Nazirah, its legacy is not just her own growth, but the responsibility to lift others as she climbs.
